Oasis was created for the Atrium of the Clinical Research Center, the hospital at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. It is loosely based on the Biblical story of the healing pools of Bethesda which are visited by an angel of mercy. Archaeology has confirmed the existence of the two pools and five porches—porticos under which the infirm rested—at the Sheep’s Gate in Jerusalem.
Bronze, stainless steel, water, upholstered velvet, Kentia palm trees, 50 x 70 ft., 2004, Gene and Susan Flores.
